Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the surgical specialty that includes the diagnosis, surgical and related treatments of a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries, defects and aesthetic aspects of the jaws, face, head and neck.

 

We treat patients with facial injuries, offer reconstructive and dental implant surgery, treatment of patients with tumors, cysts, and developmental craniofacial abnormalities of the jaws/ face and functional and aesthetic conditions ofthe maxillofacial areas. We frequently work alongside other specialists including dentists, orthodontists, prosthodontists, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, ENT surgeons, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons and other professionals allied to medicine.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was established in December 2012 by Professor Dr. Umar Khitab and his team in surgical ward. With the time it has evolved to be a 20- bedded unit providing extensive health care service to patients and teaching and training to under and post graduate students. The Department comprises of minor oral surgery and ward.

 

DEPARTMENTAL SERVICES

For the last 10 years, the Department has been rendering invaluable services to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in general and to the people of Northern Districts like Martian, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Malakand, Swat, Dir and Chitral in particular. The department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery provides elective surgical procedures on every Monday and Wednesday while emergency coverage round the clock 24/7/365. There are four outpatient days in a week i-e Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday, which are attended by the consultants.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Education and training of students in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is facilitated through lectures, one-on-one discussions, group discussions,CPC's, Journal clubs, bedside teaching, clinical teaching sessions.

History taking, clinical examination, clinical findings, diagnostic procedures, analysis of the data collected in history, appropriate treatment planning for the examined patients and treatment planning is done accordingly for Final Year BDS students.
